There’s something special in people that draws them to music. Focusing on this, amplifying this and expressing this are the main aspects of lessons with Steve. Each student chooses what they want to play, from their own favorite songs and artists. Steve has taught a wide variety of styles for 20 years, and continues to offer everything from rock to Bach, jazz to punk, and country to flamenco. He teaches guitar and bass, and can assist students with their songwriting, soloing, and their ability to figure out favorite songs on their own.

Steve recently released a flamenco and classical guitar cd that gets radio airplay on National Public Radio. He has performed for 30 years, and had extended engagements at The Arizona Biltmore, McCormick Ranch, The Scottsdale Hilton, The Scottsdale Conference Center, and The 8700. He currently performs at a resort in Wickenburg called Rancho de los Caballeros.

Steve learned flamenco and fingerstyle guitar while being enrolled in the Architecture Schools at Washington State University and the University of Colorado. He then went on to study classical guitar and to be a musician for a year in Europe. He later moved to Phoenix, and balanced a career in music and a career in architecture. For the last 20 years he has focused entirely on teaching and performing music.

Steve currently offers private and group lessons at TRI-CITY SCHOOL OF MUSIC, and has taught guitar classes through the Community Education program at Yavapai College. Groups are tailored for specific age groups and ability levels, and can include classes for couples, and classes for seniors. Steve also teaches at Gatehouse Academy in Wickenburg, where he offers a music appreciation class, and workshops in guitar playing for use as therapy.

Steve’s experience includes the creation of guitar class programs for various public and Montessori schools, as well as the Skull Valley School, Guitar and Keyboard City in Phoenix, Portland Music Company in Oregon, and classes through Phoenix Parks and Recreation. His training has included courses at The Sound Listening and Learning Center in Phoenix, workshops in NLP, and a seminar on Body Mapping For Musicians, which focuses on techniques for minimizing stress while playing.
